Today, Cuban dissenter Yoani Sánchez visited during her first travel abroad in ten years the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial. Contemporary witness and compatriot Jorge Luís García Vázquez guided her through the former central Stasi remand prison. |

Last Saturday (4th May), American author Jonathan Franzen participated in a guided tour with contemporary witness Vera Lengsfeld through the former central remand prison of the GDR Ministry of State Security.

Yesterday, 23rd April, pupils from Antwerp Institute of Applied Arts visited the Memorial at the former Stasi prison in Hohenschönhausen in order to donate a sculpture representing a former prisoner's experiences in jail. |

Professor Ahmed Jdey is the most known historian of Tunisian Contemporary History and was an important partner of the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial in reference to coming to terms with the Tunisian dictatorship. Last Friday (20th July) Professor Jdey died.

With the exhibition „Black Pentecost – deportations in the Romanian Baragan Plain“ the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial and the Romanian cultural institute commemorate a nearly unknown chapter of European post-war history. Along with the exhibition opening next Tuesday, 19th June 2012, will be shown a film and presented a new book. |
