Map of the area

If you're using Berlin's public transport system, you can reach us via a number of different routes:

Tram M5 from the S-Bahn (City Railway) stations at Alexanderplatz or Landsberger Allee to the Freienwalder Strasse stop. The Memorial is then about a 10 minute walk down Freienwalder Strasse.

Tram M6 from the Hackescher Markt S-Bahn (City Railway) station to the Genslerstrasse stop. Genslerstrasse begins at the back of the Allee Center. The Memorial is then about a ten-minute walk, past the Hotel Kolumbus on the left. The former restricted area stretched to the north of the footpath; the Memorial is at the end on the right.

Tram 16 from the Frankfurter Allee U-Bahn (tube) and S-Bahn (City Railway) station to Genslerstrasse. Genslerstrasse begins at the back of the Allee Center. The Memorial is then about a ten-minute walk, past the Hotel Kolumbus on the left. The former restricted area stretched to the north of the footpath; the Memorial is at the end on the right.

From Lichtenberg U-Bahn (tube) and S-Bahn (City Railway) station, take the 256 bus to Liebenwalder Strasse/Genslerstrasse. It's then about a five-minute walk down Genslerstrasse past the Hotel Columbus.

Fahrplan

Visiting the Memorial
When you arrive at the Memorial, you'll find the Visitors' Office just inside the gate. Please let them know you have arrived and are interested in a tour. You will then be shown to a waiting room before your guide collects you. Here, you have the chance to watch a short film about the Memorial's history. Please remember that this is a historical Memorial and you are asked to behave appropriately during your tour. Please stay with your tour group. Teachers are asked to follow their school group at the back to ensure none of their pupils get lost on the site. Eating and drinking is not permitted during the tours and cell phones are to be switched off. We would remind you that you are touring the site of a Memorial where thousands of innocent people suffered and many of them died.

Bookshop
"Bookshop '89" offers a selection of newly-published and standard scholarly works, including, for example, key research into East Germany history, dictatorship and totalitarianism. The bookshop also has a section of the latest literary fiction. The bookshop area contains a snack bar and refreshments.

Donations
There is a box for donations next to the entrance. The donations are used solely for the purpose of preserving and refurbishing the Memorial. We would be glad to provide a donation receipt, if required.

Group Registration for Meals
There is an on-site canteen located in the buildings belonging to the former Ministry of State Security (MfS) secret labour camp "X". The canteen is open to visitors. Groups wanting to take the opportunity to have lunch in this historic setting are asked to register in advance (phone +49 (0)30-97 89 76 52 or by fax: +49 (0)30-7 88 32 07).
