North Korea is one of the last communist regimes in the world. Abject poverty, total surveillance and an immoderate cult of dictator Kim Jong-il, characterize the daily lives of the 24 million inhabitants. On the other hand, the country has one of the largest armies in the world, which provokes unrest in neighboring states with the construction of nuclear bombs and military provocations.
Public execution of a prisoner /
Drawing of a former inmate.
Hardly anything is known in Germany about North Korean labor camps. An estimated 200,000 people are detained under unimaginable conditions there. During the discussion the former inmate Hye-Sook Kim will report for the first time, about the everyday life in the camp where she was imprisoned for 28 years. In addition, she will discuss the possibilities of political change with experts. The accompanying exhibition displays works from the refugee camps and prisoners drawings.
