Memorial supports protest against Assad-Regime
The Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial takes part in a worldwide reading for democracy in Syria next Monday(23th April). The international literature festival berlin (ilb) calls upon intellectuals, writers, artists, cultural institutions, schools, universities, radio and TV stations, to participate.
In a cell inside the former central STASI remand prison, former GDR television presenter and eyewitness Edda Schönherz will read passages of Samar Yazbek’s “testimony from Syria” from 1 P.M.

Once famous TV presenter Edda Schönherz had been a political prisoner during the Seventies in the GDR. After visiting western embassies in Budapest with her children in order to get information about legal departure opportunities, she was arrested and sentenced to three years prison.
Since 2004 she guides visitors through the former central STASI remand prison Berlin-Hohenschönhausen.
